WORN AT: Season 3 HBO Release Party
I had the pleasure of attending HBO Nordic’s press screening of the first episode from season 3 of Game of Thrones, and it was amazing! I won my ticket through entering their online costume competition, and was allowed to bring friends (Kim cosplayed as Lancel Lannister and Miranda cosplayed as Brienne, loved it!). The event took place in a beautiful little church in Stockholm, and there were about 350ish people there, and after some mingling there was a cool performance and a short speech by HBO Nordic CEO Hervé Payan. Then the MC interviewed the guest of honour, Rory McCann (he plays The Hound/Sandor Clegane). Rory was a very funny guy, and teased us just enough about the upcoming season! He even spoke a little bit about the relationship between him and Sansa Stark, and about how Sandor was bullied as a child, and feels protective over Sansa. The interview was not nearly as long as I would have liked, but it was great to see such a fantastic actor.
After some more mingling it was finally time for the episode! I’ll try to not spoiler anything, but suffice to say, I absolutely loved it! The episode was a little bit slow action-wise, but it did a great job of re-introducing all the beloved characters, and set up the rest of the season quite nicely. The scene between Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was absolutely fantastic, and every scene with Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) made me dying to see more! Overall the show made a few things more obvious than the book does, but I think it was well done; there are some things that you can keep hidden in a book that simply isn’t possible in a TV show. And then the event was pretty much over, but we hung around until midnight talking to other nice nerds! Except that now I have to wait an extra week to see the next episode… Damnit!
